Salwar Suits

Salwar suits are very popular Indian traditional wear, especially in northern states of India and in Pakistan. The suit consists of a Kurta more commonly known as a Kameez with length varying from knee length to ankle length. The lower is called salwar which is quite loose around the hips and then tapers down on each leg until the ankles and ends with a stiff band known as "poncha". The design pattern on poncha also takes an art work. It is typically worn with a chiffon dupatta for casual suit and party wears are complemented with a silk or Organza dupatta. The discussion of salwar kameez is not complete without the mention of Patiala Suit. In Patiala suit, the salwar has pleats that gives it a very beautiful flowing pattern.  Patiala suits are a craze in Punjab , especially the young women.  Silk  and Georgette fabrics are popular when it comes to festive and wedding occasions.  Cotton and Rayon make very comfortable and stylish casual wear.
